Art is a sixtyish, soon to be retired mental health exec. who has bicycled all his adult life. He bicycled to classes at Michigan State University [all year around, ice permitting] where he got his undergraduate degree in Psychology and his M.S.W. in Social Work. Art is a commuter and regularly rides his bike to work two to four days per week, six months a year. He is not a racer but loves to smell the roses!
Art started bike packing and touring in the “eighties”. In 1988 he and his son Chris [15 at the time] completed a month long loaded tour of the Canadian Rockies [starting in Whitefish Montana, U.S.A..] exploring the Ice Fields Parkway to Jasper, Alberta, returned to Banff by bus, then by bike to Cannmore and took a gravel logging road to Waterton Peace Park, then South to Glacier National Park and over the “Going to the Sun” highway back to Whitefish.
Art has lived the majority of his life in the midwest, Kentucky, Illinois, Michigan and the last sixteen years in the Akron area of Ohio. He is and active member of the Akron Bicycle Club and loves to be out doors especially in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. X-country skiing and reading are two of his other interests.
Judee is a fifyish soon to be retired, independent art consultant for a local Akron Ohio children’s hospital. Judee received both her B.A [Studio Arts] and M.A.[Arts Administration] degrees from University of Akron . She has ridden a bicycle all her adult life and was a Senior Racer for a bicycle shop in Orange County, Ca. while in her forties. Judee is a “go fast” rider, loves hills and to push the envelope, or rise to the challenge if another team passes!
Judee is an avid gardener when she is not on the bike. She loves to “terra form” our yard... “let’s move that tree/bush over there... how about we dig a stream through here?...could you help me haul some mulch here?...we need some topsoil on that bed!” The end result is always admired by our friends and neighbors. With an artists’ eye the yard becomes her canvas, colors are mixed, low ground covers with taller flowers and blooming bushes! From our back porch and front steps we see landscaping, where before only grass grew. In addition Judee loves to participate in aerobics three times per week and yoga at least twice per week. Most recently she has started wearing a heart monitor for our weekly spinning classes.
When we are on tour Judee is our cultural/art consultant explaining the architectural styles of the buildings and churches we are passing or visiting. Art museums and castles are high on our agendas, but limited to only five per day.
Art and Judee were married in August of 1995 and have been touring regularly on their tandems both in the U.S.A. and Europe. See their other web page http://geocities.com/wick151/index.html
