NZ to OZ

February 25 - March 11, 2007

But first a word from our sponsors

March 11, 2007 –

February 25 seems like a life-time ago.  We met Judee’s son Murray, his wife Theresa and our grandson, Cory at the Christchurch, New Zealand airport.  After spending three days there, we drove south to Dunedin, spending a night in Omaru and on into Dunedin.  Thanks to Theresa’s sharp eyes we saw yellow-eyed penguins and in the evening dusk, blue penguins.  We visited the Cadbury Chocolate factory, the Antartic Center and paddled kayaks through the botanical gardens.  In Dunedin, Murray surfed the small swells in the cool NZ Pacific.

March 2 we flew to Melbourne, Australia, rented a car and drove north to Sydney, stopping several nights along the way.  The wildlife in Australia is prolific and use to people.  We celebrated Cory’s 5th birthday in a park with cake and party hats – later with Koalas, Kangaroos, and Wombat.  After a three night stay in Sydney we said goodbye to our family who flew back to Los Angeles.  The time we spent was intense, so many experiences and memories to cherish!  Grams is in tears at their departure.  How can one express the feelings of holding one’s son, grandson and their loving wife and mother?

We are now getting the bicycle repaired (bent axel and derailer cage, cracks welded), replacing our passports and replacing worn out clothing.  Thanks goodness Murray brought many needed items to us!  We should be ready to head north toward Brisbane by Wednesday – we hope!
